Letdown Systems

Letdown systems consist of a ceramic-trimmed slurry control valve, a valve mounting flange, a blast tube or choke tube, and potentially an impingement block. A letdown system is used to dissipate the energy of a high-pressure-high-temperature slurry through a flashing process. This transitions the slurry to a state where it can be further processed at atmospheric conditions.
Letdown system components perform best when the entire system is engineered as a unified whole. Caldera specializes in designing and manufacturing fully integrated letdown systems — not just individual parts. This system-level approach allows us to optimize performance across each of the pressure letdown stages.
By using a system-level approach, Caldera engineers the location of the slurry transition from compressible supersonic flow to incompressible subsonic flow. This engineered transition minimizes the erosion and wear on the system.
